Physical Features

The physical features of the North Centeral Plains include, distinct hills, small plateaus called meseas, smaller flat-topped hills called buttes, West TexasRolling Plains, and Eastern and Western Cross Timbers. The West Texas Rolling Plains take up approximatley the western two-thirds of West Texas Rolling Plains. They rise from east to west in altitude of 750 ft to 2,000 ft at the base of the Caprock escarpment. The Eastern and Western Cross Timbers hang over the top of the Grand Praire and drop down on each side. Their soils are adapted to fruit and vegetable crops, which reach considerable commercial production in some areas.
